7 kinds of ads on your blog to earn money.

I have been blogging since 2005 and problogging from 2006. During this span of 11 years, I have come across various avenues of blog monetization and I have personally implemented all of them and earned money.

I am never tired of repeating this:
“Placing advertisements on your blog and earning money is the easiest and the laziest way to make money from your blog”.

What is meant by placing ads on blogs?
Consider a blog like a newspaper. Leave some space on your blog’s sidebar similar to a newspaper. Rent that space for advertisers to place their ads and get paid. Yeah, it works exactly like your local newspapers.

In this blog post, I will write about different types of ads that you can place on your blog and different types of payment you get. Earning money by placing ads on your website is the easiest (rather laziest) way to earn money online.

Types advertisements that are placed on your blog:

1.PPC ads
PPC (Pay Per Click) as the name suggests is the most preferred type of ads as you are paid for every click on the ads your blog wears, irrespective of any action that results after the click. I mean the person who clicked on the PPC ad and lands on the advertiser’s website need not buy a product or service or need not fill out any form for you to get paid money.

This type of advertising is called ‘contextual’ ad as the ads that appear on your blog automatically changes matching the content on the web page. Google’s AdSense is the most popular PPC advertising on the Internet.
The rate per click depends on several parameters decided by the advertiser. It may be as low as $0.01 to $60 per click.

 CPM ads
The next popular form of online advertising is called CPM (cost per million); the ads pay per every impression. This means visitors need not click on the ad for you to be paid. The rate is calculated per every 1000 impressions.
The rate per 1000 again varies with the ad network you have tied up with, the demand for the product the ad carries, the popularity of your blog in the search engines and so on. It may be $1 to $10 per 1000 impressions.

3.  CPA ads
CPA (Cost Per Action) ads pay per action.
The action might involve:
·          a click,
·         a purchase of something,
·         Joining a website free,
·          a signup of web form to receive something free,
·          giving your email or phone or address through an online form.

CPA ads pay well. In fact, they are the highest paying ads. Of course, you should be aware of the fact that the likelihood of your visitors to click on the ad and perform the desired action will solely depend on how relevant the ad is to your content, where the ad is placed on your blog and more.

The rate at which you are paid varies and depends on several factors.

4.  Text and Banner Links
Ah, this is by far the best way to earn money online. If you have a website or a blog, you can approach text link brokers and offer to place their clients’ text link ads on your blog’s sidebar, header or footer. The ads are either placed manually by you or allow them to be placed automatically through a script run by the advertising company.
The rate per text ad (sometimes banners too) is calculated as per your blog’s niche, a number of unique visitors and where they came from. Usually, the rate varies from $5 to $100 per month. What an easy way to earn money by maintaining a blog!

5.  In-text advertising.
This is almost similar to contextual advertising. Again, you can contact advertising companies that deal with in-text advertising. They go through your blog and if found suitable will invite their clients to view them. If the client’s products’ or services’ keyword appears on the content of your blog, you simply would be asked to hyperlink that particular text (word) to the client’s web page. You are paid just to hyperlink a text; no action is necessary on the ad for you to get paid money.
This is not a high paying method.

6.  Audio/video ads.
Another lazy way to earn money online. You place a piece of code on your blog’s sidebar or footer. The code when goes live might display an audio ad that runs for a few seconds or a short video clip that runs for a maximum duration of 5 minutes.

The rate varies per every click on the ad to either listen to the audio clip or to view the video. Usually, this is a very low paying industry.

7.  RSS Feed Ads
A few companies work with the RSS feed of your blog. If you burn your blog’s URL with them and generate a feed URL, the company will place text or banner ads of their clients on your blog’s feed. The ad insertion is done through a script developed by the advertising company. The best company in this field is adgenta.com
The rate varies and depends on several factors laid down by the advertising company.

Summary:
Earning money online is not so difficult if you only you know
* how to attract more visitors to your blog,
* how to attract more visits by search engine crawlers to your blog and
* how to go up on the first page of search engine results page for your blog’s title keyword.
